Hughes Fields and Stoby’s Pro Bono Commitment
Our firm has committed to provide pro bono legal services to the most vulnerable in our society who cannot otherwise have afforded to hire an Attorney to represent them in their times of difficulty.
The firm has for decades concentrated its pro bono efforts on the provision of legal representation to the indigenous communities and peoples as well as the victims of police excesses and discrimination.
In 2016 Hughes, Fields and Stoby and the Amerindian People’s Association (APA) entered into an agreement in which the firm committed to represent individuals and organisations from the indigenous community on a pro bono basis as well as the provision of a scholarship to an indigenous student who is interested in pursuing a career in law and had matriculated for the law program at the University of Guyana.
The firm has awarded a full scholarship to a student from Paramakatoi in Region 8 who is currently reading law at the University of Guyana in the LLB program.
Our lawyers also spend time each year providing free legal services to individuals who cannot otherwise afford a lawyer and other organizations which qualify for pro bono assistance.
Our team of lawyers have the opportunity to be involved with pro bono work from their first day with the firm.
